Burcu “Bee” Yesilcimen, a native of Turkey, and her husband, Sevan, are owners of the Mediterranean restaurants Anatolia Bar & Grill in New Town and Meyhane Kitchen & Bar in Williamsburg Crossing. Anatolia opened in Greater Williamsburg in 2018, while Meyhane opened for business last year.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to become a nurse to take care of people who need help.
What is a typical day like for you?
After we wake up, I first go to Anatolia to prepare for the day, while Sevan goes to Meyhane to prepare. Lunch services begin around 11am. We usually have a rest between 3pm and 5pm. We spend time with the kids then we head back to the restaurants for dinner services. We usually finish around 8:30pm, and then one of us will go home to prepare dinner for our family and we spend a couple of hours together as a family before we go to sleep.
What does your perfect day off look like?
I usually spend the day with the kids out and about and then invite friends and family over for a cook out.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Besides cooking and hosting house parties, I am very talented when it comes to gardening and landscaping.
What do you like about living and working in Hampton Roads?
I love where we live. Williamsburg is family-oriented and filled with kind people who are respectful and open-minded for diversity. I feel it is safe for my family and me, and Williamsburg residents will support you and your business all the way to end.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received when it comes to business?
Don’t give up: “the sun always shines after the storm.”
