JAMES CITY-James City County Police Department is currently seeking police recruits and certified officers to join its team.
The police department offers many opportunities for career development, specialized assignments, and training including general investigations, narcotics investigations, traffic safety and enforcement, community services and crime prevention, a school resource officer program, and uniform patrol. The department also has various specialized teams, including Honor Guard, SWAT, Bike Patrol, Marine Patrol, Underwater Search & Recovery, Crisis Negotiations, Motors, and Tactical Field Force.
James City Police Department is currently hiring for the positions of police officer I, police officer II, police officer III, and police officer IV.
While no experience is necessary to apply for the position of police officer I, applicants are required to successfully complete and maintain all established training objectives established by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services within established time periods including the field training officer program.
The position of police officer II requires two years of satisfactory service with the department or two years of equivalent experience as determined by the department, current radar operator’s certification; current intoxilyzer operator’s certification or other specialty approved by the chief of police; department training requirements regarding ASP/tactical baton; and the successful completion of 40 hours of specialized training acceptable to the department.
The position of police officer III requires three years of satisfactory service with the department, including one year of service as a police officer II or two years of equivalent experience as determined by the department plus one year of service as Police Officer II with the police department from the most recent hire date; current radar operator’s certification; and current intoxilyzer operator’s certification or other specialty approved by the chief of police; department training requirements regarding ASP/tactical baton; and the successful completion of an additional 40-hours of specialized training acceptable to department (80 total).
The position of police officer IV requires five years of satisfactory service with the department, including two years of
service as a police officer III, from the most recent hire date or three years of equivalent experience as determined by the department. To be considered for the position, applicants must receive a score of 70 percent or higher on the police officer IV exam. An associate degree or 60 semester hours recognized by an accredited college is required for the position of police officer IV. The position also requires current radar operator’s certification and intoxilyzer operator’s certification or other specialty approved by the chief of police. Applicants must maintain department training requirements regarding ASP/tactical baton and successfully complete an additional 80 hours of training acceptable to department (160 total).
