GLOUCESTER-According to a small sign on its front door, with the simple words “Store Closed,” Pet Zone has ceased operation from its location in the Shoppes of Gloucester at 6555 Market Dr. in Gloucester. The store specialized in selling exotic pets and pet supplies.

It’s unclear why the store closed its Gloucester location. Peninsula Chronicle attempted to reach the pet store’s owner, Tony Lee, several times, but calls were not returned.

Lee and a business partner opened Pet Zone at 4318 George Washington Memorial Highway in the Hertage Square Shopping Center in York County in 2017. The original location is still open for business. The second location in Gloucester opened for business in August 2019.

Though the phone has been disconnected at the Gloucester branch, an employee at the shop in York County verified the Gloucester location has “shut down for good,” but said they couldn’t go further in detail.

According to the store’s Facebook page, the Pet Zone location in Gloucester started selling shelving, counter displays, and animal cubicles on June 4 as it began the consolidation process to its store in York County.

For more information about Pet Zone’s animals and merchandise, visit the Yorktown location’s Facebook page or call 757-877-8084. The pet store’s website is currently under construction.
