HAMPTON-Olympia Harley opened her first storefront for You Matter Beauty Supply in Pembroke Crossing shopping center on Saturday, December 4.
Harley grew up in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. She started working at a natural hair salon while she was in her teens and discovered the beauty industry was a good fit for her at the time. “After graduation, I kind of went astray from doing hair, but I never lost my passion for it,” said Harley. After spending ten years working as a U.S. Merchant Marine, Harley said she’s getting back to her roots.
Business has been better than she expected. “Before opening, I didn’t realize how close the shop was to Hampton University,” said Harley. “We’ve had a lot of college students stop by to shop, so that’s been a nice surprise.”
You Matter Beauty Supply offers a variety of shampoos, conditioners, oils, hair masks, clippers, capes, curling irons, straighteners, accessories, and more. Discounts are available to licensed barbers and cosmetologists.
