NEWPORT NEWS-After more than 15 years in Hampton, the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce recently opened a new office in Newport News.

To celebrate the relocation to a more centralized space for its members, the Chamber hosted a ribbon cutting event on Thursday, June 1, followed by an open house the morning of Friday, June 2.

The new office is located at 11850 Merchants Walk, Suite 110 in City Center at Oyster Point. A crowd of local and regional business and community leaders and partners gathered to mark the ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon.

Prior to the ceremonial ribbon cutting, both Tom Cosgrove, chair of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, as well as Bob McKenna, president of the organization, addressed those in attendance in the office’s new conference room.

“We look forward to making this our home for years to come, and we look forward to having you all come back here again and again for our programs, activities, and events,” Cosgrove said.

McKenna reiterated that while the Chamber may have changed its location, it has not changed its mission, which is to serve and advocate for the businesses of the Peninsula, whether they are the large entities like the Newport News shipyard or the smaller, home-based businesses of York County.

“Today is a momentous occasion,” McKenna said, adding that the new office will better enable the Chamber to empower its members to “reach new heights of excellence.”

The Chamber’s board spent 18 months looking for a new space that would serve as a place where members could gather to share ideas, network, and form collaborations. As the Chamber and its members look toward the future in their new location, “may success be our constant companion,” McKenna concluded.

The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce serves businesses in the cities of Newport News, Hampton, and Poquoson as well as the counties of James City and York. For more information on its programs and events, visit its website.
