HAMPTON-Two prominent local businesswomen from diverse work environments recently discussed their career choices, leadership styles, and tips in maintaining a healthy and productive work-life balance during a Women’s Leadership Forum.
The event, hosted by the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, was held on Thursday, July 14. Michele Benson, gift planning officer with Riverside Health Systems Foundation, moderated the one-hour panel discussion that included insight provided by Lena Pascale Little, regional partnerships director with NASA Langley Research Center, and Beth Sherman, director of marketing and client solutions with COX Virginia.
Throughout her 12-year career with NASA, Little has been at the forefront of planning multiple large-scale events to engage the community, academia, external stakeholders, and the general public to showcase NASA’s research and inspire the next generation.
“I come from an immigrant family, and there was a lot of pressure on me to maintain a very traditional life that my grandparents had,” said Little. “My grandmother, out of kindness, what she wanted for me was to have me stay close to home, have babies, and to be around for Sunday pasta dinners. And, while I loved that growing up and still love going home, I knew that wasn’t what I wanted for myself.”
