HAMPTON—A use permit for a proposed used vehicle lot to be located at 2469 W. Pembroke Ave. in Hampton was recently unanimously approved by Hampton City Council. Prior to October 2020, the existing site would have been allowed to transfer from service, repair, and storage of vehicles by right, but zoning ordinance amendments required the new use permit. The use permit was requested by Dyon Banks.

The new business fits into the Hampton Community Plan in that it is in a commercial zoning district. The Hampton Community Plan also encourages the nurturing of small and start-up businesses and strengthening the ability of older commercial and industrial areas to support new and expanded activity.

A total of 10 conditions were added to the use permit, including that the site no longer will be able to support vehicle storage, outdoor storage, or vehicle repairs. The current parking lot, which is gravel, will need to be paved, and if fencing will be needed for security reasons, the current chain link fence will need to be removed and a decorative fence can be added. Additional landscaping and lighting were also recommended.
