WILLIAMSBURG-Anyone interested in seeing the gardens of Colonial Williamsburg’s Governor’s Palace in, well, a new light can do so this April when the limited experience “CW Lights: A Palace Garde Glow Event” makes its return.
The spring program made its debut in 2021 as a way to attract visitors in a safe way during the covid-19 pandemic. The outdoor event was such a success that Colonial Williamsburg decided to bring it back. This year’s event takes place nightly from April 7 through April 30.
The program “gives people a chance to interact with the gardens in a new, exciting way,” said Robert Currie, director of Entertainment, Evening Programs and Signature Events for Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, in a phone interview. “The Governor’s Palace and gardens is the most visited site every year, so we wanted to figure out a way to use the garden in a unique way.”
During the family-friendly walking program, which runs every half hour beginning at 8pm, visitors can stroll throughout the Governor’s Palace gardens while admiring the spring blooms as lights of various colors illuminate different sections of the property. The event also includes 18th-century musical entertainment. Currie hinted at a few new “surprises” as part of this season’s program, but did not divulge details.
“I think everyone is going to have a blast,” he said. “There are a lot of fun things to explore.”
