World Premier Of Chris Thile’s Mandolin Concerto Coming To Ferguson Center

NEWPORT NEWS—The world premiere of a new mandolin concert by MacArthur Fellow and four-time Grammy Award-winning mandolinist, singer, composer/songwriter Chris Thile is set for Friday, May 19 at 7:30pm at the Ferguson Center for the Arts.

Thile will be accompanied by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Co-commissioners of the new work include Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Louisville Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Arts Festival, and Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

A founding member of the critically acclaimed bands Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers, Thile has been credited with creating a distinctly American canon and new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike. As part of his eclectic musical career, he served for four years as the host of the public radio show Live from Here with Chris Thile (formerly known as A Prairie Home Companion).
