YORK-The Hampton Roads Iceplex is under new ownership and has a new name.
The facility, located at 401 Village Ave. in Yorktown, is now known as the Chilled Ponds at Yorktown Ice Sports Complex.
The rebranding comes following the sale of the ice skating arena. The facility was recently bought out by Chilled Ponds, which also operates the Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex in Chesapeake. That ice rink is used in part as the training facility for the Norfolk Admirals ice hockey team.
“As I am sure most of you are aware, the rink has been sold to Chilled Ponds,” John Smith, facility scheduler for Chilled Ponds at Yorktown, wrote in an email to patrons on January 30. “We are officially Chilled Ponds at Yorktown.”
Smith said in the message that the new ownership will not affect schedules for the adult leagues, adding later in the email that, “I think the future of adult league will be a lot more fun with some changes on the way in the future.”
A statement on the Hampton Roads Iceplex website reads: “We are excited to announce that we are now Chilled Ponds at Yorktown. Big changes are on the horizon. Check back often for updates on adult hockey leagues, figure skating, group lessons, and public sessions.”
