WILLIAMSBURG – There are a lot of misconceptions regarding 3D printed houses, starting with the name.
“The name itself is actually a little strange because when you think of 3D housing, I think your mind can go in a lot of different places,” said Chris Thompson, the director of strategic housing for Virginia Housing, which used to be known as the Virginia Housing Development Authority. “Right now, it’s using technology to build a wall system using a new way of putting the concrete in place. ‘3D printing’ itself is just not a good term.”
