NEWPORT NEWS—The Newport News Shipbuilding division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) recently turned over the keys to the nineteenth home that shipyard volunteers have constructed since 2002 in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg.
In a ceremony held on Thursday, June 16, Newport News Shipbuilding was joined by local elected officials and community leaders in officially transferring ownership of the home over to Mickeia Hunter and her children Cinque and Nehemiah.
“Whether you’re building a house or a ship, you need the right tools, processes, and materials to get the job done,” said Julia Jones, vice president of manufacturing and industrial manufacturing, and system engineering at Newport News Shipbuilding, in a press release. “While the outcome may be a little different, the builders’ dedication and pride is the same. It’s the same feeling that we celebrate in this new house and the promises it offers. Just like the crew of a ship, now it’s time for the Hunter family to take this house and make it a home.”
