YORK – It’s been decades in the making, but the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, May 16 approved a plan to finish the realignment of Penniman and Government roads, reconstructing the awkward Y intersection into a T.
“The good news is this project is moving forward,” said Deputy Planning Director Tim Cross. “We have acquired the right of way and we finally have approval from the Navy. That hurdle has been cleared.”
The realignment required U.S. Navy approval because the road crosses over the Cheatham Annex rail spur.
The $6.2 million project will move the northern terminus of Government Road slightly northwest to meet Penniman Road at a 90-degree angle, add bike lanes in the shoulders, and curbs and gutters between Fillmore Drive and Alexander Lee Parkway.
