YORK-Dr. Eduardo ‘Eddie’ Lopez opened his first dental practice, York River Dental, on Monday, May 1. The new dental office is located next to Computer Concepts and Pet Zone in the Heritage Square Shopping Center.
While Lopez said he spent a little time updating and renovating his new office, the storefront that York River Dental moved into was last occupied by Yorktown Dental, so there was no need for a major overhaul.
“The space was actually a turnkey office, so I figured, ‘why not?,’” said Lopez. “I was hoping to practice out of my own office, and this was a good fit.”
After putting the finishing touches on the office’s interior, Lopez noticed something was missing: artwork. York River Dental is looking to feature local artists, amateur or professional, in its lobby and waiting areas.
“Because we’re new, we have to be a little more creative with getting our name out there,” said Lopez. “Our space is about 3,000 square feet, so there’s a lot of room and space on the walls. Essentially, what we want to do is have local artists display their artwork here.”
Lopez said he’s not looking to make a buck from the artwork displayed at York River Dental.
“It’s more of a mutually beneficial concept, where artists would get exposure based off our patient population and we would get exposure from the artists having their friends and family coming into the office to check out the artwork,” said Lopez.
Lopez said he’s considering rotating artwork on a monthly basis.
“It really depends on interest, but I envision holding a wine and cheese type of event monthly in the office where artists could showcase their work,” said Lopez. “Amateur or professional artists are welcome, it doesn’t matter. I just want to give our local artists a way to display their work.”
Lopez said artwork will be accompanied with a short bio about the artists and contact information will be available for community members who are interested in buying works or contacting artists for future commissioned pieces.

Lopez was raised in Manning, SC, and attended the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC, where he studied biology. He completed his dental education at the Medical University of South Carolina, receiving his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry in 2020. Lopez completed a general practice residency program at the Hampton VA Medical Center and decided to stay in Hampton Roads to practice dentistry.
