WILLIAMSBURG – The fallout from the pandemic continues: the developer of the mixed-use High Street development in Williamsburg is asking the city to let them build more apartments on two vacant parcels because they have not been able to find someone interested in building more commercial space.
“Covid-19 served to supercharge existing trends such as the shift away from brick-and-mortar shopping to e-commerce,” wrote Brandon Wright, the manager director of Crescent Acquisitions, in his request for a special use permit to increase the cap on residential units from 40 percent of the overall site to 45. “The pandemic also normalized consumer behaviors such as grocery and food delivery as opposed to in-person shopping and dining out.”
