GLOUCESTER – Gloucester County’s finance services department has been honored by the Government Finance Officers Association for the seventh consecutive year.
The county received the organization’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its most recent budget.
“We are honored once again to receive this recognition,” Cheryl Spivey, Gloucester’s chief financial officer, said in a press release. “Our staff in finance and fiscal services works diligently each day to improve our processes and make our accounting easier for staff and our citizens to understand.”
Through the award, the GFOA honors governing bodies that meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. Each winner must provide effective budget presentations, showing how well an entity’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device.
In order to earn the award, an entity has to receive a “proficient” rating in all four categories, as well as each of the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.
