NEWPORT NEWS—Joint Base Langley-Eustis recently announced there will be a change of command ceremony at Fort Eustis at 9am on Thursday, September 8, 2022. General Paul E. Funk II will relinquish command of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) to Lieutenant General Gary M. Brito. Brito will be promoted to General in a ceremony prior to the change of command.
Funk assumed duties as commander of U.S. Army TRADOC in June 2019. As the commander, he led TRADOC’s operationalization of the Army’s People Strategy, focusing on building positive command climates, reducing harmful behaviors, and driving change across the Army. General Funk championed countless initiatives to include revamping Basic Combat Training, modernizing the Captain’s Career Course, fielding the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT), and the creation of the Future Soldier Preparatory Course.
Lieutenant General Gary M. Brito arrives from the Pentagon, where he served as the U.S. Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1. Brito is a native of Hyannis, MA, commissioned as an Infantry Officer through Penn State University ROTC, and entered active duty in March 1987. Brito previously served in TRADOC as the Commanding General of the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, GA.
