NEWPORT NEWS—The BayPort Inaugural Charity Golf Classic event held on April 28 at the James River Country Club in Newport News, raised $113,170. A total of 84 golfers played the award-winning course to benefit the Foundation’s $100,000 scholarship program and will help provide charitable grants to promote financial literacy, family health and wellness, and hardship and emergency assistance.
The funds will also help to enhance BayPort’s support of the Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula, as well as partnering this fall with Newport News Shipbuilding and Habitat for Humanity in the construction of a 3D-printed house in Newport News.
According to a press release, BayPort Credit Union commits more than half a million dollars in annual corporate donations and pays the Foundation’s overhead to ensure that 100 percent of Foundation donations support its mission.
The charity event was made possible by the support of sponsors of all levels, and Gold Sponsor partners including Haywood Floor Covering, North River Construction, and Tommy Garner Air Conditioning and Heating.
