JAMES CITY-The James City County Police and Fire departments have joined forces to instruct a course on Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E.) and Stop the Bleed. The free combined courses will cover basic first aid instructions for active-shooter events.
The course will be held from 6pm to 9pm on Wednesday, June 22, at the James City County Police Department Law Enforcement Center, located at 4600 Opportunity Way. The class is open to James City County residents who are 18 years of age and older. Monique Myers, assistant police chief with the James City Police Department, said the courses have been held in years past and always garner quick interest from the community. This year was no different.
“The class filled up pretty quickly, probably within a few hours of us putting the information out,” said Myers. “It’s always been a popular class, and we’ve offered it numerous times in the past. It’s always filled up quickly.”
Myers said the police and fire departments hope to offer another class in the near future but are working on a specific date to hold the course.
“We’ve been telling people to keep an eye out on social media because we’ll advertise it there,” said Myers.
Residents can keep up with upcoming course offerings by visiting James City County Police Department’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages in addition to the James City County website.
