JAMES CITY-Blown Away Salon is expanding with the opening of its third location in the WindsorMeade Marketplace shopping center off Monticello Avenue in James City County this spring.

Owner Michelle Green said on April 5 that a soft opening for the new location is planned for mid-April with a grand opening set for some time in May. The new Blown Away Salon will occupy space at 4910 Monticello Ave., Suite 7A, where the former Bubbles Hair Salon used to be.

Green, who has been in the beauty industry since 2000, first opened Blown Away Salon in Hayes in 2011. She opened a second location in Yorktown in 2020 three weeks before the covid-19 pandemic shutdown.

“To say it was easy would be a lie; however, it taught me perseverance,” she said. “I have always loved taking care of people and making them feel beautiful.”

Green endured other challenges throughout the past two years, including unexpected spinal surgery that kept her out of work for a while as well as the passing of her sister just as she was firming up the new location in Greater Williamsburg.

“My salons then learned how to function without me physically being present 100 percent,” she said. “During the time I was out of the salons, I continued working hard behind the scenes with then accounting, coaching, mentoring, marketing, and advertising as well as taking many classes. I honed in on delegating and putting systems in place. I realized that I couldn’t do it all. I hired salon leaders and educators to work within the business along with my long-time salon coach to help me grow my company.”

Blown Away Salon specializes in hair services, waxing, massage, facials, and nail services. The York County Chamber of Commerce honored Blown Away Salon with the Small Business of The Year Award in 2021.

“I am nothing without the support and the encouragement from my team,” Green said. “We enjoy not only taking care of our guests and making them look and feel beautiful, but we also love learning new techniques and growing the younger generation within the salons. We are very excited to expand into Williamsburg and can’t wait to meet new faces.”

The New Local News Model

On July 1, we started a new way to pay for news. Yes, we want you to subscribe, but we know nobody subscribes to every site they visit just because there's a paywall.

So if you don't want to subscribe (even at the low price of $39.99 for a year), you can pay for access to individual articles. Or just buy a 24-hour pass, as if you were buying a single copy of a newspaper. We use a new payment service called Transact, which lets you pay for individual articles in as little as three seconds. And you will get $3 in credit when you sign up (just an email address, no credit card required), which will let you pay for at least 20 articles.

This is new for everyone, so we're going to ease you into this. Initially, there won't be many articles that you have to pay for. Short ones will always be free. And even the longer stories will let you read the first half or so for free. We'd love to hear what you think, so send us a note at feedback@peninsulachronicle.com.
