NEWPORT NEWS—Dollar Tree Inc. recently announced that a 24,490-square-foot “combo” store will be opening at 11008 Warwick Blvd. in Newport News on Monday, March 28. The new Dollar Tree/Family Dollar format is already in nearly 300 locations across the country. This is the second location in Hampton Roads. The first area store, located at 5900 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. in Norfolk, opened on March 3.

According to a press release obtained from Dollar Tree, the unique Dollar Tree/Family Dollar combo store expands the product assortments available to customers. In addition to providing everyday low prices and a broad assortment of essential products offered by Dollar Tree, the Family Dollar section of the store will offer an expanded selection of frozen and refrigerated foods, pantry goods, beauty and health merchandise, household supplies, basic apparel, baby and toddler necessities, pet food, electronics, toys, and home décor.

The Dollar Tree assortment will continue to offer customers with the same values they have come to expect from the retail chain on items such as balloons and party supplies, Hallmark greeting cards, seasonal decorations and holiday gifts, do-it-yourself (DYI) crafting essentials, school necessities, and more.

“Family Dollar and Dollar Tree are teaming up to provide the Newport News community with a unique shopping experience that offers extreme value on everyday products, along with celebratory and seasonal items that our stores are best known for,” said Kayleigh Campbell, Dollar Tree’s Director of Investment Relations.

The New Local News Model

On July 1, we started a new way to pay for news. Yes, we want you to subscribe, but we know nobody subscribes to every site they visit just because there's a paywall.

So if you don't want to subscribe (even at the low price of $39.99 for a year), you can pay for access to individual articles. Or just buy a 24-hour pass, as if you were buying a single copy of a newspaper. We use a new payment service called Transact, which lets you pay for individual articles in as little as three seconds. And you will get $3 in credit when you sign up (just an email address, no credit card required), which will let you pay for at least 20 articles.

This is new for everyone, so we're going to ease you into this. Initially, there won't be many articles that you have to pay for. Short ones will always be free. And even the longer stories will let you read the first half or so for free. We'd love to hear what you think, so send us a note at feedback@peninsulachronicle.com.
