JAMES CITY-Studio South Yoga studio, a popular fitness center on Lightfoot Road in Williamsburg, is permanently closing its doors. The last day of operation for the studio will be Wednesday, January 19.
Studio South founder Katy Speegle Henderson shared the news of the closure in an email to members on Tuesday, January 18. She cited the coronavirus pandemic as well as personal reasons for the decision.
“It’s no surprise that the studio has struggled through the covid pandemic,” Henderson wrote. “The world has struggled together. The landscape has changed for the business of yoga.”
In addition, personal reasons also played a factor in Henderson’s decision to close her establishment. As a result of those personal matters, “I find myself no longer able to give this business the resources it requires. Please know that every measure possible was taken before reaching this incredibly difficult decision,” she said.
Studio South will only offer one class on January 19 at 5:30am before it closes for good.
Henderson first opened Studio South in the spring of 2013. In addition to hot yoga classes, the fitness studio also offered Barre classes.
Henderson concluded her email by thanking her patrons for their support.
“I will be forever grateful to all who supported, loved, and grown our community,” she said. “I will carry all the memories and relationships with me and an even greater love and appreciation of yoga.”
