NEWPORT NEWS—Newport News Mayor McKinley L. Price was recognized last week for his work to advocate for America’s global leadership as an imperative and effective approach to strengthening our country’s local communities. Mayor Price is one of nearly 100 mayors from across the nation that were honored by the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) with the Global Statesman Award for their outstanding leadership and service.
“I am humbled and proud to be recognized by the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition,” said Mayor Price. “America’s global leadership begins at home, and I am honored to work alongside my fellow mayors across the nation to improve the lives of those we have the privilege of serving. Incredible change is taking place in our country, and many of the ideas and momentum begin on the local level, in communities like Newport News. I look forward to continuing to advocate for change that uplifts residents and protects human rights around the globe.”
Mayor Price and a bipartisan group of mayors across the country were recognized as leading voices of how America’s global leadership strengthens local communities during the USGLC’s virtual 2021 Tribute Celebration on December 7.
“Mayors across America are stepping up, knowing that diplomacy and development are essential to the health, safety, and economic interests of every American family,” said Liz Schrayer, President and CEO of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition. “Let’s face it, mayors across the country are on the frontlines every day, addressing global issues that are now kitchen table issues—from the pandemic to our economy—that matter to their constituents. They uniquely understand that America simply can’t ignore what happens outside our borders. USGLC is proud to honor Mayor Price because he has been an influential advocate for strengthening American global leadership to support our communities here at home.”
