James City County Supervisors Approve Hazelwood Farms Mixed-Use Development

JAMES CITY-In a 3-2 vote on December 14, the James City County Board of Supervisors approved a special use permit that will rezone farmland on Old Stage Road in the upper end of the county, paving the way for a new mixed-used development called Hazlewood Farms Village Center. The approval came despite opposition of nearby residents in the rural community.

Hazelwood Farms LLC first requested the permit through the James City Planning Commission in October. Hazelwood Farms Village Center will be situated on 79 acres along Old Stage Road in Toano. The owners envision an entertainment, retail, office, and business complex with 510,000 square feet of retail. Plans include a grocery store, bank, office, self-storage space, restaurant, hotel, and a convenience store with a gas station, among other commercial uses.
