La Casona Mexican BBQ & Grill in Williamsburg Closes

JAMES CITY-The owner of La Casona Mexican BBQ & Grill announced on December 2 that it has permanently closed after roughly two years in business.

Christian Illanes, who operated the restaurant with his wife, Marcela Guzman, shared the news on social media. He thanked everyone for their patronage as he and his wife tried their best to endure in challenging times. Ultimately, the pandemic and subsequent factors were to blame for the decision to close.

“I know it is not easy to say goodbye, but the circumstances of life, the pandemic, and the high inflation ended up annihilating us,” Illanes wrote.

Illanes added he plans to keep the restaurant’s Facebook page active “in case one day we accept the challenge again and give them back what we know how to do…The best Mexican food and the best margaritas in all of Williamsburg…forever.”

La Casona Mexican BBQ & Grill first opened in August 2019 at the intersection of Jamestown Road and Sandy Bay Road in a mostly residential area. The restaurant earned rave reviews, though perhaps its location also played a role in the closure. Many restaurants have come and gone at the same site through the years, including Red Pig BBQ & Brew, Nazar, and Istanbul.
