GLOUCESTER-Marker Nine will celebrate its grand opening from 4pm to 9pm, Friday, November 19. The new coastal lifestyle apparel store is located at 2082 George Washington Memorial Highway in The Shops at Tidemill shopping center.
Prior to the company’s new brick and mortar storefront, it had been operating as an online retail shop since 2015 with an occasional pop-up tent appearance at local events throughout the years. Marker Nine’s products attempt to convey the simplicity that comes from living along the coast.
A recreational boater and founder of Marker Nine, Rudy Heinatz said the idea for the name of the company came naturally as he was boating past the green number nine channel marker while leaving Sarah Creek and entering the Chesapeake Bay’s York River near the York River Yacht Haven in Gloucester Point.
Heinatz said his love for the water was ignited during annual family vacations at the Outer Banks when he was a child. “From the time I can remember, being on the water was always a part of fond childhood memories,” said Heinatz. “That’s what sparked my love for the water.”
Marker Nine’s coastal-themed items include T-shirts, hoodies, hats, accessories, and more. The company’s selection of colors and creative design reflect a connection to home, respect for an unspoiled way of life, and commitment to preservation.
Marker Nine is holding an online ribbon cutting event at 3:30pm Friday via Facebook. The retail store will offer in-person customer discounts and raffles throughout the day. Regular store hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm.
