JAMES CITY – Edgewood Outfitters, located within Williamsburg Premium Outlets, will celebrate its one-year anniversary Friday, November 19, at 9:30am with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in partnership with Retail Alliance.
Edgewood Outfitters is a women’s fashion outfitter that specializes in denim and classic American styles with a bohemian flair and offers casual basics like jeans, hoodies, graphic tees, fashion tops, joggers, loungewear, intimates, outerwear, and accessories. Much of what the store carries is made in the United States.
Owners Karen Hampton and Gabrielle Mueller opened the locally-owned shop within the traditionally national retailer outlet mall November 20, 2020, during the height of the covid-19 pandemic. Their grand opening hit a snafu when pandemic mandates changed the evening before the celebration, forcing the owners to limit the event to a small number of friends and family.
The friends met six years ago in Georgia while Mueller was attending Savannah College of Art Design and Hampton was edging toward the end of her teaching career. They started talking about owning a business together three years ago and agreed it was time to bring the idea to fruition. “The time came and I quit my job, she quit hers, we put everything in the pot and just went for it,” said Mueller.
The owners hope to catch the eye of new shoppers and mentioned that the pandemic has hindered business. “I think the lack of tourism has had an overall impact on the shopping center, but we’d love to attract more local support as well,” said Mueller.
The public is welcome to attend the ribbon cutting. The store will be offering various sales in honor of its one-year anniversary, along with refreshments provided by local businesses.
