WILLIAMSBURG-The City of Williamsburg’s Economic Development Department won a Gold Rank from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for its 2019 Annual Report. The award was presented Tuesday, October 5 at IEDC’s Annual Conference.
Winning in the category of Annual Report, IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year’s most influential leaders.
The 2019 Annual Report was Williamsburg Economic Development Department’s first annual report that covered 2019 activities in the categories of job creation, job retention, tax base enhancements, and quality of life. The report detailed the department’s projects and targeted incentives for new businesses. The report highlighted economic development return on investment to the city and its residents.
“We are so proud of our 2019 Economic Development Report,” Acting Director of Economic Development Yuri Adams said in a press release. “It was a first for our department, a small but mighty team of three. We don’t often have a chance to step back and absorb how much this department and our business community have accomplished, and this annual report helps us share that message with our city leadership, our partners, and our community at large.”
There are 25 award categories that honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities. Awards are judged by a diverse panel of economic and community developers. IEDC received more than 500 submissions from four countries during the nomination process held earlier this year.
