Fire Destroys Hampton Beauty Supply Store

HAMPTON—A fire that caused more than $1 million in damage to a local beauty supply store in Hampton was intentionally started by a child, according to fire officials. Since the person in question is younger than 10-years-old, the name of the accused is not being released. No motive has been established for why the fire was set.

Employees and customers were in the store when the fire began in the afternoon on July 31 at the Apple Tree Beauty Empire located at 4009 W. Mercury Boulevard. Everyone was evacuated safely. According to sources, the blaze escalated quickly because many items in the store contained synthetics and chemicals, acting as an accelerant.

It took more than three hours to extinguish the flames. Fire crews returned to the scene the following two days to snuff out hotspots.
