NEWPORT NEWS—The City of Newport News Department of Engineering is in the process of bringing existing sidewalks up to required federal standards. This will increase pedestrian, multi-use, and disabled accessibility, improve and provide access throughout the city, and create a more sustainable and safer pedestrian experience.

The two walkways include the sidewalk along Warwick Boulevard from Lucas Creek Road to Atkinson Way and the south side of Briarfield Road from Marshall Avenue to Chestnut Avenue. The Warwick section will be widened to eight feet while the Briarfield section will be widened to five feet.

Information about these two projects have been mailed to residents who live near where construction will be taking place. For additional information, interested parties should contact Project Manager Carson Towne at 757-933-2311 or via townecm@nnva.gov.
