Inaugural Beerlympics Will Benefit Animal Aid Society

HAMPTON—If you’ll be missing out on going to Japan for the 2020 Olympic Games, St. George Brewing Company wants to make sure you can still get in on the action. They will be holding their inaugural Beerlympics on Saturday, July 24 from 1–6pm. The games will be held at the brewery, which is located at 204 Challenger Way in Hampton.

“We’re super excited about this,” says Heather Gauthier, business and sales manager for St. George Brewing Company. “Essentially, think of a Field Day, but with beer. We wanted to do a fun event, and we also really wanted to give back at the same time, so we partnered with Animal Aid Society, which is a no-kill dog shelter.”

Games will range from tug-o-war, to a wet sponge relay, malt sack races, giant beer pong, beer trivia, and more. The event is open to the public for those who just want to come out and have a beer while enjoying the festivities, but St. George is hoping to attract a large number of teams for the competition, as well as corporate sponsors.

“We haven’t decided if we’re going to have a DJ, live music, or a combination of the two, but there will definitely be music,” said Gauthier. “We’ll have a food truck, an outside bar, and the taproom and brewery area will be open while the event is going on. We’re going to have a kids’ area with a bounce house and games as well. So, if people want to bring their kids, bring their dogs, and have a great time, this will be the place to be.”

And don’t forget the prizes for those who will be competing. “Yes, there will be prizes awarded, and some fun medals for all participants,” said Gauthier. “Anybody who signs up for a team will get a t-shirt, and we’ll be doing sponsor spotlights on social media. We’ll be highlighting all of the gold, silver, and bronze sponsorships, and organizations can sponsor a game and actually run the game if they want.”
