NEWPORT NEWS—Wahi Fine Rugs is a family-owned business that has been in the rug trade for three generations. After being in the Hampton Roads area for more than 15 years and at their Virginia Beach location for four years, owner Adi Wahi decided it was time to open a second location that could better serve customers on this side of the water.
“I had customers coming to Virginia Beach from the Peninsula all the time,” said Wahi. “I had been thinking about a second location for some time. So, when I found a space at Oyster Point in Newport News, it allowed me to spread my wings with two locations so I can better serve customers from Virginia Beach to almost Richmond as well as Yorktown and Gloucester.”
In addition to selling handmade rugs, pillows, and rug pads, Wahi also provides rug cleaning and repair services. They handwash all rugs using a mild soap that is safe on wool and protects the lanolin. With general wear, they recommend that rugs should be cleaned every two years to remove packed-in dust and dirt.
They also offer a “try before you buy” option that allows shoppers a no-obligation opportunity to take a rug home to see what it will look like before purchasing it. Wahi believes that seeing the rug in place is the only way to know if it’s the perfect complement to the rest of the room.
The new store is located at 11721 Jefferson in Newport News. For additional information, visit their website.
A formal ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor McKinley L. Price to properly welcome Wahi Fine Rugs to Newport News will be held on Friday, May 21 at 4:30pm.
